this week in politics

It seems the country has come down with election fever. Gordon Brown featured on Piers Morgan’s life stories, David Cameron and the Tories unveil another line of posters and Nick Clegg says that the Lib Dem’s won’t make up a coalition Government if there is a hung parliament. The run up to the election has officially got under way. Strange that, as an election date is actually yet to set. Some time in May seems to be on the cards, leaving the parties just a couple of months to get their election campaigns in full swing.

Gordon Brown’s appearance on Piers Morgan’s life stories was one of more criticism and intrigue. I watched the show and was unable to make my mind up on the result. To be honest I though he came across very well. He answered the questions confidently and mostly comfortably. It wasn’t Gordon Brown’s ability that I wasn’t sure on, more that of the skills and questions asked by Piers Morgan. Pestering Gordon about his is sex life and the amount of drinking he took part in as a student. It did however give an insight into the PM’s life that many may not have seen before, and one I personally was unaware of.

What I don’t understand is the criticism that followed. How can the press slam Gordon for being impersonal and now complain that the country doesn’t need image they need substance. I know that’s the press’s job, but really? It seems he’s dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t. But I’m sure he was still feeling good about an interview which I think, made him look a lot more personal a leader. Well when Andrew Rawnsley’s new book stated that Brown was a bully to his staff at number 10 will remind Gordon how he’s just about incapable of doing anything right. No one knows what kind of guy he is, so I guess it is not up to us to judge, but we will, and the press will have already made their mind up what they think of him.

The Tories have stepped up their campaign with the unveiling of new posters! And again I think the only people who will be pleased to see them is those at http://mydavidcameron.com. I have to say I do find the images on there very funny. Some more than others. This is my pic of the new posters.

This leads me onto my next subject. Not only are there new posters, but the Tories are on a mission in Scotland. Scotland has never been the homeland of the conservative party, and David Cameron knows its going to be hard to rule a country if he has little to none of them voted Tory. He needs to get the support up in Scotland, but I don’t think its going to be easy.

The two parties seemed to very similar in recent months, but as Gordon Brown announced, the Labour party is planning on having a very ‘radical’ manifesto, this may finally show the true difference in the main parties. I’m very much looking forward to the coming election and this year’s election is most definitely shaping up for a great contest, perhaps one of the closest in many years!

That’s all for this week. read next week when I’ll have all the updates on Labour’s new manifesto and the week in politics.
